Donald Duck and the wet wipes-Plus-Jounaling, lying

Katie Story
I came around the corner and felt something wet on my sock. I looked down and noticed a piece of a wet wipe on the bottom of my foot. I looked in the kids bathroom and found the wet wipe container open. I had just told Katie a few hours ago that the new wet wipe box was not for using on her baby dolls. If they had a "dirty diaper" then she could use on of her doll wipes, NOT a real one. I was then interested in what Katie would say happen and praying that somehow I wouldn't have to discipline her over using them...

I called her into the bathroom and asked why she had used the wet wipes.

Katie, "Momma, Donald Duck said he needed some."
Me, "WHAT? Excuse me?" I asked.
Katie, "Mommy, Donald Duck needed to use them."
Me, "Amazing Katie, you are amazing." :)

Sooooo, I prayed about it and we just talked about telling the truth and being creative and when to use each one in three year old fashion.

Journaling-lying
Lying is one of the things God says he hates in Proverbs 6:16-19. I want to teach our kiddos from an early age that lying is not acceptable, it's not right. It does not help build relationships of trust and vulnerability. And it does not allow us to connect with our Father in heaven. So I am on a mission to find ways to teach Katie (and Owen) the difference between lying and being creative/imaginative. It has been challenging. I don't want to squelch her imagination/creativity and yet, Donald Duck using the wet wipes? :)

The one thing I have decided (and Justin agrees) is that lying will be immediately disciplined. And I will try my darnest to not give her the opportunity to lie in the first place by asking questions like, "What happened with the wet wipes?" or "Why did you use the wet wipes?". Instead of questions like, "Did you play with the wet wipes?"

These two questions may sound the same, but really they are a bit different. The first one helps her tell the truth, I assume (hopefully by looking at the facts around me) that the action happened and we need to deal with it. If I only asked the second question they I would be asking her if she even played with the wet wipes when in fact I already know she played with them because she is the only one who could have except me. Does this make sense?

I am praying a lot about this. I want to help train her heart while it is teachable!

Do you have any thoughts? Helpful verses? Ideas on this?

Jesus, May your power affect her (ours and Owen's) cold hard heart. Till the soil of her heart until it is turned to you the true King of light and life.

What did Katie do today??!

I set a pitcher of water on the sofa table this morning to take out to water the plants...Katie decided to help me by trying to lift it off the table...you see the results...the WHOLE PITCHER of WATER landed on her and the carpet...I learned a lesson...Katie can now reach up on counter tops and tables to grab things...then she was wondering why I was taking a photo of her while she was soaking wet! Thanks Pippers for trying to help Mommy out. :)

The park, Day one

We headed out to the park for some swinging and some fun! Katie had a great time and it was enjoyable to get some warm fresh air. :) It has been a treat to have 60's for day time highs. We are loving it! It was a zoo at the park as there were a set of twins, a set of triplets, three other kids and a dog!

Oh What Fun It Is To Eat!

We have been trying to teach Katie how to feed herself...it isn't going so well. haha :) Most of the time the food ends up in her hair, on us or smeared on her clothes and tray! It sure is fun to watch her though...................
She is 8 months old and loves anything so I guess that is a good trade off. At least she is not spitting it out...yet. :)

Thanks Nana and Papa...

I love my Valentines card! I do wish it was a real lollypop...but my mom and dad say I can't have suger like that yet...what do you think, Nana??
I love you and hope I can see you soon.
Love, Katie Grace
PS that bite of Banana Bread that I got over Christmas...my mom and dad don't think so, but I think that kind of bread is very super healthy-don't tell them that there is a cup of sugar in it. That will be our secret!

What Katie has been up to or into!

Yeap, Katie is standing everywhere she can. I caught her doing all of these in the past week! The one by the toilet-she crawled to the bathroom while I was taking a picture of some beautiful tulips that Justin had given me. And by the time that I got to her she was "playing" in the water-thankfully which was clean! I had the camera in my hand so I snapped this shot. And now I just keep the bathroom door closed!
But she is 8 months old and going to walk soon. Look out world, our world is getting faster with a crawling/standing baby!!!!!!

Noisy toys, crazy hair, and falling!

Katie got this wonderfully noisy :)leap frog baby toy for Christmas from Nana and Papa Green. She loves it! Her favorite thing to do is hit the buttons all at once so that every possible noise can happen simultanously. :)

And as you can see in the second picture her hair is long enough now to be crazy wild in the morning. I am sure it will only get more crazy!

And the last photo is about her first fall. I think she was doing well since almost 8 months had passed and she hadn't fallen that hard yet! But the story is...She was standing up, holding on to the leap frog toy, lost her balance and fell...hitting her top tooth through her little lip on the inside and causing immediate blood! Justin scooped her up quickly, and I cleaned up her mouth. Katie handled it like a champ crying only for a few minutes. We gave her this teething ring to help with any soreness. But it is amazing that the mouth heals itself so quickly! She was better and off to play in about 5 minutes! :) And not much to report the next morning-her mouth looked fine!

Katie is eating and loving it! Plus good baby food site!

Hi all,
Katie is loving her foods! Yes, she has always loved to nurse and is passionate about it, but now that we have introduced a few solids she has found something else to become passionate about! :)
The foods that she has tried, liked and doesn't have any allergic reactions to are:

Sweetpotatoes-her favorite
Peas
Bananas-her second favorite
Avocados
Green beans -not her favorites, though she will eat them
Pears
Applesauce
Peaches
Butternut Squash
Brown Rice

She is totally a ham when it comes to eating and I now know what it is like to change my clothes after feeding her. She tries out new sounds, makes funny faces, sneezes all while eating and consquently (Beth Mckenzie word) her food ends up somewhere on my clothes! Good thing "Shout" Stain Remover works!

And if you are interested in a good baby food site with recipes check this out.

There is also one for toddlers

The Best Day Ever

So I know that most of you mommies out there will agree with me that when there is an excellent, above the clouds day with your children, you feel like writing or telling somebody about it! So I guess it has been 7 months (very exaggerant, I know) since I can say all these things happened all together in one day...I got things done around the house (chores, cooking errand), played with Katie, Katie played by hersef and was very content, she slept pretty well for her naps, loved the stroller ride down the street to the grocery store, had a bunch of smiles and laughs and I love being a mommie today!! Of course I love every day, just in different ways. Somedays the Lord has planned for a "remolding my vase", other days he decides to reshape it and start over. Today was a very grace filled day from Jesus.

Lord, Thanks so much that you gave me a breath of fresh air! I had no idea that it was coming and I am simply going to just rest in today, not worry about tommorrow (which you command)and give you all the glory. Thank you Jesus.

Happy Belated 7 month Birthday Katie

Even though this is late (it should have been on Christmas day) I still wanted to post her 7 month pictures. She is growing like a weed! She is crawling everywhere and starting to pull up on things! We are going to need to put in the plugs for the electrical switches soon! She has a new car seat, eating everything that we put in front of her with her two bottom and TWO TOP teeth (which she got over Christmas!...look out nursing!) and loves to be chased up the stairs! :)
We love her bunches and bunches,
Love you Katie Grace
Mommy and Daddy
