Three Out of Four

This past weekend Justin and I came down with 'normal winter colds'. We weren't feeling 100%, but not that bad.  Then last night/this morning Katie woke up with a fever. We think the cold virus must have morphed into the flu for her. She is resting/sleeping on the couch right now, poor little girl.
But contrast that to Owen who is talking to himself while playing 'monster trucks' in his room. :) It is so. so. sweet. to hear his little voice saying, that cars are saving the day!, or jingle bells, jingle bells, or singing Rejoice, Rejoice, etc.
Prayerfully the colds/flu will stay away from our joyful three year old and that the rest of us will be healthy quickly~especially Katie.  But right now his playing is warming my heart.

exhausted

Being sick takes the spunk right out of little ones.  Katie was exhausted and well, you see the outcome-asleep on the potty.  To get caught up on her missed sleep after her episode of the stomach bug she slept for about 24 hours straight.  She was one tired cookie.

Recovering from being sick

Katie did such a joyful job patiently helping Owen while he was sick with Strep. I know somedays she was by herself for a bit, but she didn't complain and so she got a treat too! Around here we do baths when sickness comes with a mixture of salts (sea, epson, baking soda and borax) to try and drawl down a fever and toxins out of the body. Honestly they are good anytime of the year, but when you're not feeling well they can be a welcomed treat.

Here Katie is having her foot bath to help her relax and be pampered. She grabbed her entire basket of books and sat reading for about 20 minutes. I have to say I was a bit jealous of her super soft feet afterwards!

And Owen as he recovered didn't want to miss out on the fun. He had had a bath earlier to sit and plan in, but the foot bath was to tempting to miss. I think he only lasted about 5 minutes. :)

But he did have the opportunity (while I was putting something away) to grab the paints out of the closet and 'paint' on the table. Seriously, even with strep and a fever this kid is fast!

Luckily that was all he painted-his face and table...both of which wash!

Then on Friday, Ms. Beth and the boys came and took Katie for the afternoon to the Science Museum. She was on cloud 9. The kids were supposed to spend the night with the McKenzies while we were at the B & B, but we are rescheduling because of our little guy. THANK YOU so much for taking Katie. She was thrilled! She also said that she got an icy treat BEFORE dinner with you guys and that it was the best treat ever. Thanks our friends, for loving on our big girl!

Owen, even though it was a hard 4 days we are thankful for our Dr., thankful that it was only strep and thankful that God has healed you.

Food Poisoning

So yesterday I had the awful privilege of having food poisoning. It was truly a "do not want to experience again" experience.
I am about 15 weeks along and aggggg, yuck-it wasn't fun! I think I have narrowed it down to taking a bit of yogurt that I was about to feed Katie around lunch time as being the culprit. I remembered that I had taken the yogurt with us on a picnic and then it wasn't eaten. I had taken a small frozen icy to keep it cold, but it didn't work. I tasted it to be sure it was still okay, and after one bit, I thought, "I am not sure, I should throw this out." That was all I thought about it.

Then around 4 pm I started feeling bloated and a bit queasy. Things just got way worse from there. After doing some reading online, which one site called food poisoning, "becoming violently ill in 6-8 hours after eating something sour" I deduced (with Robin's help-thank you!) that that is what I had. It was a miserable night of throwing up, being in the bathroom and not sleeping, but like the site said, in about 18-24 hours you should feel better...and I do. I am still tired and my back/tummy hurts from throwing up, but I have made it!~
And the Lord was incredibly gracious to me today and Katie took a great nap. 2 hours and 15 minutes-I took one too :)
But note to self, food poisoning is horrible-especially while pregnant, but it would have been even more awful if I had given that yogurt to Katie. So Praise the Lord for his care and protection even in this!
