Pumpkin Carving

Though, its been almost a week since we carved these...I didn't want to forget to document a day for you two, Katie and Owen-after all its been way to long.
It was a good day. It was beautiful, creative, filled with fall noises, the background noise of some tunes and your ideas.  And this was the first year that we didn't help you all at all.  Well done, kiddos!

Katie Amazes Me

This is the doll she created because she wanted a paper/rag doll just like Laura.  As we have read Little House on the Prairie, Katie has desired more and more to try things like they did.  This is her version of "Charlotte" (Laura's rag doll).
I love how she has blond hair and blue ribbons just like the book says and also that her arms are a wee bit longer then her legs.  :)
I think what amazes me is her patience and creativity to do things by herself and to do them all the way.   This is one way in which she has grown lately.  She is focusing a bit more and patiently working through her thoughts to create or say what she really means.  We've been praying for self control and patience and in this small way God has been faithful to help her grow!
Katie, we love you and your imagination!

Our Budding Artists

Katie drew her own picture, by herself...pretty good little lady! I was so impressed with your painting inside your lines. Love those blueberry bushes, apple trees, two cute kiddos (O and K) and the pink roof on your house.
And Owen...your dump truck is awesome too!  There is also a purple storm cloud on top hindering the driver, says Owen.

Science Museum

We explored the new science museum wing!  Tons of hands on activities and neat technology.  Plus all the research scientists were working behind glass walls so we watched then research/investigate/dissect.
It was pretty neat.  The table above is pretty cool.  It lights up with all the information about whatever animal is placed on it.  Katie choose to learn about an owl and Owen a frog.  Being honest, their favorite part was just pushing the buttons on the table, like an ipad.  :)

Oh and we ran into the Cordells exploring the new wing too-Love those people!

Art

Our library trips have been getting better. By better I mean lately our choice of books have been fun, creative and full of ideas that we can try at home.  One such book is Bridget's Beret by Tom Lichtenheld.  Super cute and a great story to get kids involved in art. I loved the last pages that describe some famous artists and what their passion was to paint/cut/dot/draw.  I would highly recommend it!  Another book that is cute about art is Willow by Denise Nelson and Rosemary Brennan-Katie said tonight that she loves the Willow book. :)

Katie, I love your desire to learn something and then immediately put it into action.  Way to go sweet girl!

Hello little Monet!
Katie walked around the house until she found the perfect flower to draw. A red rose that Justin had given me last week.  :)
studying the rose...look at the concentration.  And the glasses, got to have glasses to be a true artist!
oh, cutie pie-we love you.
the brown scribbles are Owens.  :)
Ta Da!  She titled this, "Flowers make all the difference".

 Owen's happy art work!
The back of the book that teaches about famous artists.
 Another masterpiece
 ...and one more!

Word World

We think these shows are super fun. I know you can watch some of them on Netflix or rent a few from Redbox. Most of you probably already know of them, but in case you haven't, they are catchy and cute. :) Happy watching!

Flying feathers

Katie loves doing art, crafts, coloring...I recently bought a bag of wiggle eyes, feathers and felt and let her create her own picture. We worked together and then I headed into the kitchen to finish some dishes. Things were quiet and I was lost in my own thoughts. As I came around the corner I caught this...Her art on paper had turned into art in the air. :) She was memorized by throwing feathers up in the air and watching them float down around her. I was awed by the mess it was creating. They. Were. Everywhere. But alas she was having a grand time and that was another reason to let her play and then get out my trusty vacuum. I am still finding tiny feathers floating around. :)
Love you Pippers-you are beautiful!

step one of our garden

We are doing another garden this year and opted to try to start a few things from seed. Mostly because we want Katie (and Owen) to be a part of the process from seed to table. Normally we like to go to the State Farmers Market and buy some plants since they are easier to maintain and we love buying from the farmers. But we are trying our hand at our own this year. (we tried from seed two years ago and it pretty much failed so there is always the chance we will go to the Farmer's Market anyway, later on down the road. :)

And as you see, Katie also had some input into getting some other seeds...'princess' flowers! (the above photo) Katie and Daddy's date was to grow some flowers-so they are maintaining the mini flower greenhouse as well as the veggies.
Saturday morning we planted our seeds in a mock greenhouse. When I say we, if truth be told it was mostly daddy planting. :)
A few of the veggies that came in the starter kit. We are excited for everything to begin to germinate.
*Katie and I just checked and we already have flowers, lettuce and a bean coming up!
More updates soon.
