Summertime #5 = mudpies and forts

Kiddos, you are back at it!  You've rebuilt your fort behind the beautiful Tea Tree's and I've already been invited to "dinner".  There are numerous items throughout our yard that you use for your kitchen and pantry-see your "herbs" drying? You are All American with your flag and resourceful with leftover bits of wood and rope.  You've made beds out of chairs and "dinner" out of garden leaves. You wash your dishes, clean your kitchen, make mud pies, get dirty, sing while you work and have a blast.  Well done!

"See this, Mom? Steak and salad!"

Being Neighborly

Katie and Owen, this past snow was fun!  We played a lot in the heavy wet flakes, created the Ninja Turtle, did some sledding and you also decided to help out Mr. Gene and Mrs. Sallie.  On your own you decided to clear off their ENTIRE driveway as an act of service and love to them.  :)  Daddy and I were so proud of you!  It took you about 1 1/2 hours, but you did it.  Mrs. Sallie and Mr. Gene came out to say thank you and gave you each $2 and a cookie.  Boy were you SUPER excited!
Mommy and Daddy are proud of your hard work and even more glad your joyful hearts served well!

Turtle Ninja

We didn't build a snowman...we built a Turtle Ninja (Owen your words, Buddy)!
Owen, your Teenage Mutant Ninga Turtle shirt was the inspiration, Daddy unzipped your jacket every once in awhile and checked your shirt to make sure he was on track. :)
Katie, you helped spray him green and supervised.
We think Daddy scored 100% on his snow sculpture!

Winter has come!

In the South one never knows when the snow will come.  We can rest assured that it will probably come at least in some form-snow, ice, sleet, a mix. The funny thing is we are either surprised when it comes or it is predicted for days and days.  And when it comes the city shuts down....it completely shuts down. It still amazes us how there is more fear over a winter storm then there is for a hurricane!

At the Hime house we feel like the white beauty comes every year towards the end of the winter season (Feb or March) after we have been blessed with a sprinkling of days at 65 degrees in January and when our hearts are ready for spring.

This season is no different. The snow came and is coming again tonight. :) We are thankful for the stillness and for the hot cocoa, the reading of chapter books, the playing outside in the fluffy or packed ice crystals and we are enjoying having Daddy home when he works from home.

We've gone sledding with friends, built snowmen, had a snow ball fight, walked to Starbucks for a warm apple cider and enjoyed talking with neighbors as they walk the quiet streets.
Below are our adventures in picture form.

Happy snow days!
