A Meal With Jesus-A book blog...

I just finished reading A Meal With Jesus by Tim Chester. A very worthwhile read-it is starting to reshape my thoughts about meals, tables, discipleship, community and evangelism! I'd love to pass this book along to you if you leave a comment and you promise to read it-I have a few to give away. I think it will change your mind about meals, mission, the Lords Supper and more. At least it has sparked my soul to greater time around the table!

A few quotes...

-Food matters. Meals matter. Meals are full of significance. Few acts are more expressive of companionship than the shared meal. pg 9

-Food is so much more then fuel. pg 11

-Hospitality involves welcoming, creating space, listening, paying attention and providing. Meals slow things down. Some of us don't like that. We like to get things done. But meals force you to be people oriented instead of task oriented. Sharing a meal is not the only way to build relationships, but is number one on the list. pg 47

-When your church family gathers together as a group of needy people and shares food with Jesus at the center and with Jesus as the provider, you glimpse God's coming world right her, right now. The Christian community is the beginning and sign of God's comping world-and no more so than when we eat together. Our meals are a foretaste of the future messianic banquet. Our meals reveal the identity of Jesus. Our meals are a proclamation and demonstration of God's good news. pg 61

-This means the quality of our food should matter to us. We're to treat food as a gift, not merely as fuel. pg 68

-When we combine a passion for Jesus with shared meals, you create potent gospel opportunities. pg 77

-Food is meant to express our dependence on God, but we use food to express our independence from God. pg 104

-God's grace is expressed as an abundance of food. Salvation is a feast. pg 112

-The Lord's Supper is a call to God to act in keeping with his covenant: forgiving us, accepting us, and welcoming us to the Table through the finished work of Christ. pg 121

flowers, hike and dinner

I received the most beautiful sunflowers ever for our anniversary...9 sunny, bright reminders of our married life. Thanks love!

And since my birthday is 4 days later we wrapped all the celebrating into a weekend of family adventure. One thing we did was to hike at Durant Nature park-down to the stream.

WOW, I am learning all about native trees!

Being contemplative (aka deciding if she should wait for us or step in the water by herself!) :)

We are super into silly faces right now!

There is something so refreshing and quiet about being near water. awwwww-so nice!

Finding fun sticks, bugs and rocks with Daddy.

Then we came back and while I played with the kiddos Justin made the MOST DELICIOUS dinner for my birthday. Seriously, it was good-MELT IN YOUR MOUTH GOOD!
Smashed Potatoes, steak, maple caramelized green beans and grilled shrimp with a mango cherry chutney.

At one point I said, "Holy cow!" And Owen being a parrot right now said, "Holee Cww!" :)

I love when you cook-thanks my love for treating me with your culinary talent!

Katie says

So....some days Katie has a difficult time falling asleep...we are working on it...I mean we are working HARD on her schedule so she can hit the pillow and be out. A few weeks ago we heard this come from her room.

"Everything is tired except my tummy-all right it is time to calm down."

I think she is working on it too!

HOT days=Pool playing

It has been HOT here. I mean what else can you do when the heat index reaches 115 or so? Our answer the POOL or thankfully inside with the air on. :) We have taken to going to the pool around 10 and home by an early lunch. I've slathered on lots of sunscreen and we've had a blast! Thankful for Millbrook pool and also for our friends over in Bedford. :) Bedford is a local fantastic neighborhood with an awesome pool. Thanks for letting us swim with you guys-Hannah, Rachel, JT and Melissa.
We LOVE sprayparks!

Hi Melissa!

For my birthday

Justin kindly took me shopping at Ann Taylor Loft. I love that store. I was going for a few new shirts that weren't either too short in length or way to old and had lost their shape.
And to boot...they even had their shirts on sale-wahoo! Here are two that I got and I am thankful for a caring husband and cute new shirts!

I got this one in a chocolate.

I got one similar to this in pink

and then a few sunwashed tee shirts which are super comfy.

Check out their sale if you're in need of a new shirt!

I'll celebrate!

right now....it is precious...Katie and O have been playing together, kindly-lovingly-well, for the past 10 minutes.
Thankful for siblings!

He dumped out the chips

And thoroughly enjoyed eating them off the floor...

it was an oily mess...
why is O so fast?
he grabbed them off the table after lunch and before I could catch him or the bag...onto the floor they dumped-every single last crumb!

But they BOTH enjoyed eating them off the floor. Oh the joys of little things. :)

what has Owen been up to?

His love of the toilet continues...
He likes to sit on the potty, reading a book and try to go stinky-he never actually goes-he normally has already gone in his diaper, but afterwards runs to the potty and does everything he's seen Katie do (reading books)!
Crossing my fingers that potty training is a breeze...not holding my breath though!

We caught him jumping from the ottoman to the couch.

How much fun can a little guy have, wearing his sisters flip flops and sitting in his car seat? Almost a 1/2 hour of joy.

Found a pair of Katie's play glasses and on they go!

He is cute or what?

So....I am not supposed to sit in this mixing bowl?

Cheese! Owen has taken a fond liking to his animals-one under each arm at night.
Love this little guy!
